Winter Vacation Extension in Punjab Schools Due to Cold Wave
Winter vacations are a time for students and teachers to take a break and enjoy the colder months at home. This year, the cold wave across Pakistan has caused several provinces to adjust their winter vacation schedules. However, the Punjab Education Department has not yet decided to extend the winter holidays. If the weather improves and remains under control, schools across Punjab are expected to reopen on January 13, 2025.
Current Situation in Punjab
In Punjab, all public and private schools are scheduled to resume classes after the winter vacation on January 13, 2025. The Punjab Education Department has been monitoring the weather conditions closely. While parents and students are curious about the possibility of an extension, the department has not made any official announcement yet.
The situation remains uncertain, but if the cold wave persists, the education authorities may consider extending the holidays to ensure students’ safety. However, as of now, the reopening date stands firm.
Winter Vacations Update in Other Provinces
The cold wave has led several regions to extend their winter vacations:
- Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK): Due to severe cold weather, schools in AJK, both public and private, will reopen on February 6, 2025, instead of the previously announced date of February 2.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): Schools in KP have revised their reopening date to January 7, 2025, after initially planning to reopen on January 1.
- Sindh: No announcement about extending winter vacations has been made yet in Sindh, and schools are expected to reopen as per their schedule.
- Federal Schools in Islamabad: Schools under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) will resume classes on January 9, 2025, whereas private schools in the city will reopen earlier on January 6, 2025.
Punjab Higher Education Department Update
For college students in Punjab, the Higher Education Department has announced that colleges will reopen on January 6, 2025, after the winter break that started on December 24, 2024.
Impact of the Cold Wave
The cold wave has disrupted normal routines in many parts of the country, with parents concerned about the health and safety of their children. Students are particularly vulnerable to cold weather, especially in areas where classrooms may lack proper heating.
Decision Pending for Punjab
While provinces like AJK and KP have made adjustments to their schedules, Punjab remains undecided about an extension. The Punjab Education Department is closely monitoring the situation. If the cold weather persists or worsens, a decision to extend the winter vacation might be announced soon.
For now, parents and students in Punjab should prepare for schools to reopen on January 13, 2025. If any changes are announced, we will share updates immediately.
