HEC Law Graduate Assessment Test LAW-GAT All You Need to Know

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, in collaboration with the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), conducts the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) as a prerequisite for law graduates seeking enrollment with the Bar Council as advocates. The test, directed by the Honorable Supreme Court on March 6, 2018, ensures the competency of law graduates by assessing their foundational knowledge and readiness to practice law.

Purpose of LAW-GAT

The primary objective of the Law-GAT is to evaluate the skills and knowledge of law graduates. This test is designed to ensure only competent individuals are enrolled in the legal profession, promoting higher professional standards and integrity.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the LAW-GAT, applicants must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in law or an equivalent qualification recognized by the HEC or PBC.

Tentative Test Date

  • The test is scheduled to take place on February 23, 2025.
  • In case of unavoidable circumstances, HEC reserves the right to change the test date. Applicants will be notified accordingly via the HEC website.

Test Centers

  • Applicants can select their preferred test center from the provided list during the online registration process.
  • A minimum of 250 candidates is required for a center to be activated.
  • Once a center is selected, it cannot be changed.

How to Register for LAW-GAT

Step-by-Step Registration Process

  1. Visit the HEC portal and create a profile if you don’t have one.
  2. Log in and click on the “Law Graduate Assessment Test” link to begin registration.
  3. Fill out the form, upload required documents, and submit the application.
  4. Use the Link/IBill invoice payment service to generate a fee challan.
  5. Deposit the test fee in the mentioned bank. Note: The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
  6. Submit the paid invoice through the HEC portal.
  7. Applications submitted without payment or incomplete documents will not be entertained.

Important Notes

  • Roll number slips and test centers will be confirmed a week before the test date through the HEC portal.
  • Applicants must bring a printout of their roll number slip and valid CNIC/Passport on test day.
  • The fee submission process must be completed by February 7, 2025 (4 PM).

  1. Passing Marks: Applicants must score at least 50% to pass.
  2. Policy Compliance: The test adheres to HEC and PBC policies.
