The Chinese Government Scholarship Program (CGSP) offers Pakistani students the opportunity to pursue higher education in China, fostering academic collaboration between the two nations. Managed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, this program provides scholarships for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies across a wide range of disciplines.
Programs Offered
The CGSP supports international students, teachers, and scholars in undertaking degree studies, including.
Undergraduate Programs: Typically spanning 4-5 years, these programs require a mandatory one-year preparatory Chinese language study. However, candidates with a valid HSK Level 3 certificate (obtained within the last two years) may be exempted from this requirement.
Master’s Programs: These programs usually last 2-3 years and may include a one-year Chinese language study if necessary. The language study is determined based on the medium of instruction and the student’s proficiency.
Doctoral Programs: Doctoral studies typically extend over 3-4 years, with an additional one-year Chinese language study if required. The necessity for language study depends on the program’s language of instruction and the applicant’s proficiency.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Nationality: Be a Pakistani/AJK national and permanent resident.
- Age Limits:
- Undergraduate programs: Under 25 years.
- Master’s programs: Under 35 years.
- Doctoral programs: Under 40 years.
- Academic Qualifications:
- Undergraduate applicants: Completed 12 years of education (Intermediate/A-level).
- Master’s applicants: Bachelor’s degree (16 years of education).
- Doctoral applicants: Master’s degree (17-18 years of education).
- Language Proficiency: Meet the language requirements of the chosen Chinese university and program.
- Health Status: Be in good health, both mentally and physically.
Application Procedure
HEC Online Application:
- Register and complete your profile on the HEC online portal.
- Select “Learning Opportunities Abroad” and choose the CGSP.
- Submit the application and retain a printed copy.
CSC Online Application:
- Apply through the China Scholarship Council (CSC) portal.
- Select Program Type: A and Agency No. 5861.
- Submit the application and retain a printed copy.
Required Documents
- Signed application forms from both HEC and CSC portals.
- Attested copies of all educational documents.
- Copy of CNIC/B-form and domicile.
- Study plan or research proposal.
- Two recommendation letters (for master’s and doctoral applicants).
- Language proficiency certificates (if applicable).
